for MetaTrader 5 traders
Journal every MT5 trade automatically.
Connect OpenTerm5, the free open-source MT5 terminal, and every deal lands in your journal as it happens, marked verified. You spend the evening reviewing trades, not typing them in.

| time | type | price | commission | profit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 09:45 | buy | 1.10080 | -3.75 | 0.00 |
| 12:45 | sell | 1.10500 | -3.75 | 420.00 |
Three steps, once.
The first sync brings in the last 90 days, so your journal starts with history, not a blank page.
- 1
Install OpenTerm5
A free, open-source MT5 terminal for Windows, macOS and Linux. It logs in to your broker's MT5 servers directly.
- 2
Connect once
Press Connect in OpenTerm5 or in Tradescribe and allow it. No keys to copy, no EA to install.
- 3
Trade as usual
Each deal arrives while OpenTerm5 is open. Anything that happened while it was closed comes in the next time you log in.
What comes across
- Buy and sell deals become fills, grouped by MT5 position, so hedged positions on one symbol stay separate trades.
- Commission, swap and fees count as costs, and P&L is what MT5 booked in your account currency, whatever the contract size.
- Deal times are converted from your broker's server clock to your journal's timezone.
- Each MT5 login gets its own journal account, named after the server and login. Rename it as you like.
- Deposits, withdrawals and other balance entries are left out; they are not trades.
Free to start.
OpenTerm5 is free and open source. On Free, Tradescribe journals up to 20 trades opened a month from MT5 or anywhere else, and history from earlier months always comes in. Past the limit, new MT5 trades wait in OpenTerm5 and arrive once you upgrade to Pro or the month rolls over. Nothing is lost.
Before you connect
Does OpenTerm5 have to stay open?
Deals sync while OpenTerm5 is open and logged in to your MT5 account. Close it and nothing is lost: the next time you log in, it picks up everything since the last sync.
Does Tradescribe see my MT5 password?
No. OpenTerm5 logs in to your broker's MT5 servers itself. Tradescribe only receives your deals, through a key you can disconnect at any time under API in the app.
Can I connect more than one MT5 account?
Yes. Each MT5 login gets its own journal account, and you choose in OpenTerm5 which accounts sync.
Can I edit a synced trade?
Its review, yes: notes, tags, mistakes, rating, playbook, stop and target. Its prices and times stay as MT5 reported them, which is what keeps it verified.
Is OpenTerm5 really free?
Yes. It is open source under the MIT license, and the code is on GitHub. Trading carries risk; try it on a demo account first.
